100 Word Stories
Background
My 100 Word Stories end up,
appropriately enough, on a self-deprecating site headed “100 Word Stories.”
I encountered this site quite by
accident. In trying to track down a similar site from a
podcast promo and armed with an
incorrect spelling of http://greathites.blogspot.com/,
I Googled “100 Word Stories” and
happened upon Laurence Simon’s weekly podcast.
This seemed like an interesting
collection of minds. Apart from my weekly column and
podcast I don’t get an opportunity to
do a lot of creative writing, but the challenge of
coming up with something interesting
within such rigid parameters, that appealed to me.
One of the first weekly challenges I
heard had this long, complicated prompt –
something like “Death
by Pineapple / Revenge shall be mine / Failed Wolfram Alpha
queries,” which I would totally
have submitted something “Angel”-related, but in that it
sparked something – anything at
all – I quickly became one of Simon’s lost souls.
My text entries are below. My .mp3
entries at Simon’s site generally consist of a brief
intro, a few bars of music to set a
mood, a bed passage behind the story itself, sometimes a little foley work and
an outro.
Simon’s site is located at http://podcasting.isfullofcrap.com/.
The name refers to Stur-
geon’s Revelation, that 90 percent of
everything is crap. In a way that should inspire
us all, the ambitious Simon asks, “Why
stop at 90 percent?” and strives for a podcast
that is full of crap. Hoping to
help him meet that goal, here are my entries to that site
thus far. Enjoy!
