ANGEL

S4x09 – Long Day’s Journey

Review by Terry J. Aman

They block out the what now?

As Ra conducts his journey across the sky, the silliness reaches crisis levels. Gwen arrives and by and by they discover there's only one totem left alive. They put him in a safe place and Cordy kills him. Oh, I mean, she finds a way to get the Beast in there and he destroys Manny and gets away with the Orb. Um, I mean … the Beast got in there himself and killed him. That’s right. That’s what happened. Roiiiiight.

Now, normally when this sort of thing happens we've been given a little more backstory. As viewers, we're just watching Cordy break down a little with the craziness and the suspicion.

We don't yet know that she's evil. We don't find out for sure until the Lilah pokeage in "Cavalry." And we never really find out why. Jasmine the motive force, Jasmine the thrall, seems to be a much different being with much different priorities than Jasmine the Presence.

The story, what the Beast does, isn't even a little bit possible. I don't know how large that whatever-it-must-be over L.A. is, but it's very troubling and very silly and the sooner they get   rid of it, the better.

So, the darkness, and the chaos, and the Beast. I've got a nutty idea -- let's bring Angelus into the mix.

Oh, for the love of gardening ...

Oh, and if the effect was localized in L.A., the "meteorological anomaly" should've been following the sun around in the sky. As it was, it was always noon and the effect always looked like it was covering the whole sun.

Well, probably it means something truly wonderful is coming.
