‘SFU’ from the beginning
Shows sometimes come and go
without a lot of notice or interest. “Six Feet Under” was not one of these
shows.
The setting of a family-owned funeral home in Los Angeles – Fisher & Sons –
was inherently interesting. Funerals and death are realities most people don’t
have to deal with on a daily basis, although absolutely everyone faces
mortality.
This reality hits even more closely to home for the Fishers in the pilot
episode when the father, Nathaniel, is killed when the hearse he is driving is
T-boned by a city bus.
From that moment on, you get a good sense of the show. The family’s lives are
explored in microscopic detail during the ensuing five seasons of this amazing
show.
And this week, in its basic cable reiteration, it all came to a close with the
jaw-dropping series finale. As of this week, Bravo had aired all 63 episodes.
And for those who missed it, or who saw part of it and wanted to catch it from
the very beginning, you’re in luck. Not only is Bravo airing first-season
episodes again starting Monday, the network is airing an all-day marathon of
“Six Feet Under” episodes beginning at 8 a.m., closing with the series premiere
in primetime.
