‘Hustle’: New season, new

locales, new cast, bigger scams

Personally, I like “LOST.” And I love “Medium.” I think both series are telling some great stories this season. I enjoy “Bones” and I enjoy “Criminal Minds.” And there are some good comedies to be found in and among the dramas – and that’s all without clicking outside of network programming.

What I’m saying is if you have a television, there’s been some good stuff to watch on Wednesdays.

And TV addict that I am and already happy as a clam about Wednesday night’s lineup, I’m very much looking forward to the return to the lineup of an absolute gem.

The BBC-American Movie Classics co-production “Hustle” returns in a burst of gloriously madcap razzle-dazzle Wednesday at 9 p.m.

“Hustle” follows the antics of a band of antiheroic British grifters. They scam arrogant bullies and the otherwise thoroughly deserving out of wealth and prestige, making themselves a tidy little profit in the meanwhile.

The new season finds the group has hopped the pond to scam a new set of ne’er-do-wells in Los Angeles.

New locales, capers

Along with the new setting, there’s a new lineup. While Jaime Murray, Robert Glenister and Robert Vaughn are back as the eye-poppingly gorgeous Stacie Monroe, the resourceful Ash Morgan and the ever-distinguished Albert Stroller, respectively, Ashley Waters is signing on as up-and-comer Billy Bond.

And while the group’s leader – the impossibly smooth Mickey Stone, played by the impossibly talented Adrian Lester – is off pulling a major scam in Australia, the often goofy, always loveable and entirely irrepressible Danny Blue, played by Marc Warren, takes the chance to step up as the leader.

He puts it all on the line with the first caper. You better bet it takes some personal charm, some mad skills and some intestinal fortitude to sell some nasty nogoodnik the “HOLLYWOOD” sign.

How much? See for yourself. Naturally one can really only watch five or six things at once, but AMC is very accommodating, airing “Hustle” several times over the course of the week. Catch the original on Wednesday at 9 p.m. or really, whenever you can. It's a great show.

From my perspective, it’s just good to know it’s back.
